01 / Story
Our hospitality projects begin with a deep study of the site's spirit,
treating the floor as the fifth wall of an architectural masterpiece. We
believe in a silent dialogue between the structure and the surface; at
Aman New York, this manifested as a mirroring of the meditative atmosphere
of the Ganges. By translating the rhythmic ebb and flow of sacred waters
into muted, rhythmic textures, we ground the guest experience in a sense
of place that is both ancient and profoundly modern.
02 / Process
The creation of a hospitality centerpiece is a marathon of meditative
focus. Using 150-knot precision, our master weavers follow the rhythmic
talim - the oral song of the pattern - spending over 2,000 hours on a
single lobby rug. This extreme density is not merely for detail; it
creates a structural integrity designed to withstand the soft but
constant footfall of global travelers, ensuring the rug's luster remains
unchanged for decades of service.
03 / Materials
We source our Highland wool from flocks grazing at altitudes above
4,000 meters, where the cold produces a fiber rich in natural lanolin.
This is blended with hand-reeled Mulberry silk, then dyed in small
batches using organic madder root and indigo. The result is a living
color - a depth of hue that shifts and dances across the silk threads
as the light moves through a hotel lobby from dawn to dusk.
